HV71 has had a really tough start to the SHL season.
New coach Anton Blomqvist is already a little discouraged.
– I feel helpless, he says to Sportbladet.
The 34-year-old coach Anton Blomqvist is new for the season in the Jönköping club HV71. He has previously spent three years as head coach for AIK in the hockey Allsvenskan. But the start in the SHL has not been at all what Blomqvist had hoped for.
“Needs to be better”
It was cod in the premiere against Växjö (3-4), then in the second game against Skellefteå (1-3) and against Frölunda (1-3). Even in the fourth fight of the year, there were zero points for HV71. Linköping won 2-1 and ensured that Anton Blomqvist’s losing streak was extended.
– It is the toughest imaginable in my position, of course. I really try not to have my focus there. But my focus is on what we do on a daily basis. These are direct things that I can really influence. I put all my energy into the work I need to do going forward. I need to be better in my position. I need to do a better job towards my players, he tells Sportbladet.
Tough matches await
Already after four rounds, the situation is precarious for the team and the new coach is naturally under pressure. He must perform as quickly as possible. Next, Modo is waiting for homemade ice cream. Then it is Örebro and Färjestad that stand for the resistance.

– Now we have lost four games and it is clear that it is gnawing at me. I feel helpless, maybe that’s the wrong word but I want to help the players more. I think I see a hell of a commitment and a hell of a drive in the group. I really wish they could have tasted a victory. I think that maybe we have worked together to have a slightly different feeling than the one we have at the moment. It’s just a matter of continuing to work patiently and making things even better, says Blomqvist.
