From April 27, 2023, a new vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will begin. This is for vulnerable people. Explanations.
From April 27 until June 16, 2023, a vaccination reminder campaign against Covid-19 is again in place. According to the announcement of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), this vaccine booster is intended for people “whose immune protection decreases more rapidly over time”. This therefore concerns: people aged 80 and over, immunocompromised patients as well as residents of all ages in nursing homes. People suffering from serious forms of illness are also affected by this vaccine booster.
Ensure the health of people at risk
With the “still active circulation of Covid-19” and the “insufficient level of booster shots”, the DGS announced on Tuesday that the booster vaccination campaign was necessary for fragile people. The objective of this vaccination campaign is to “maintain a sufficient level of vaccine protection in order to reduce the occurrence of severe forms of Covid-19and the risk of hospitalization and death”.
As the DGS points out with the indications of the High Authority for Health (HAS), performing a booster dose in particularly fragile patients makes it possible to prolong a high level of protection against the virus over time.
In addition, the DGS specifies that people who are not part of the targets of the recommendations mentioned above, can, if they wish, benefit from a booster dose free of charge.
A next vaccination campaign in the fall of 2023
In addition to this spring reminder campaign, another vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will take place in six months, next fall. The latter will be carried out on an anti-influenza model.
“In anticipation of circulation of Covid-19 over the autumn-winter period, taking into account the reduction in vaccine protection over time as well as the additional protection provided by a booster dose, a booster campaign will be organized. next autumn-winter, at the same time as the anti-influenza campaign”announces the General Directorate of Health.
In order to benefit from this next vaccination booster in the fall, it will be necessary to respect a period of six months between the two doses. “regardless of the person’s age and recall rank”. If you have been infected with Covid-19, you will also have to wait six months before the booster dose is given to you.
The details of this booster vaccination campaign will be communicated at a later date.
