On Monday, it was time for the annual Halloween party in the White House. In honor of the day, Antony Blinken’s 4-year-old son had dressed up as the president of Ukraine. The defense minister’s son wore a dark green shirt with an American-Ukrainian flag pin on the chest, similar to Zelensky’s attire often seen in the media. He also had a box of M&Ms with the presidential seal.
Blinken was also accompanied by his wife and their 3-year-old daughter, who was dressed in the blue-yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Invited to trick or treat
According to one press release from the White House, approximately 8,000 guests were expected to attend the event. The children at the party also participated in trick or treating.
The US Secretary of State’s grandfather, Moritz Blinken, was born in the capital of Ukraine, which then belonged to Russia. He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of four. Blinken’s ancestors were, like Zelenskyy, Ukrainian Jews.
The United States is Ukraine’s largest donor. In total, the United States has supported the country with about 62 billion dollars since the beginning of the war.
