Ansaldo Nucleare meets Minister Pichetto Fratin ready for SMR development

(Finance) – The CEOs of Ansaldo Energia, Fabrizio Fabbriand of Ansaldo Nucleare, Daniela Dear, met the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratinwith whom they discussed a series of topics such as research and development activities on new forms of energy production with low CO2 impact, the perspectives on the role of nuclear power in the Italian and European scenario.

During the meeting, the announcement of theEuropean alliance on SMRs (small modular reactors) announced on Tuesday by the European Commission. Ansaldo Nucleare confirmed to the Minister who will participate in this alliance with its know-how and technological skills, after having contributed significantly to its creation.

The role of Ansaldo Nucleare at a national and international level in all fields, from new units to decommissioning, from work to extend the life of plants in operation to the development of new technologies and fusion, it has been recognized by some of the world’s top leaders of the sector, with which the Ansaldo Energia Group has signed strategic collaboration agreements in recent months. With EDF e Edisonthe Ansaldo Energia Group is working on potential industrial cooperation for the development of nuclear energy in Europe, in particular in the field of Small Modular Reactors, while with Westinghouse and other European partners on the development and construction of Lead-Cooled Small Modular Reactors, small lead-cooled fourth generation modular reactors.

In this context, the Ansaldo Energia Group started the search for professional figures – both with proven experience and younger resources to focus on for the future – who can contribute to growth in research and implementation of new activities, both in the nuclear and conventional energy sectors. The first phase of searching for new collaborators involves around 30 people, not counting the additional related activities that Ansaldo Nucleare expects to employ.
