Ferdinando Sciabarrà, 72, offers Twitter’s new boss, Elon Musk, a chance to buy a portion of Turkish Stairs. Sciabarrà, who was recently declared the owner of part of the landmark, now hopes to sell it to the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
According to the news of the Guardian; Ferdinando Sciabarrà, 72, who was declared the owner of a portion of the cliff last year after a long legal battle with the local government in Realmonte, Agrigento and years of complaints about the maintenance of the stairs, put the space up for auction. The 72-year-old man believes that Elon Musk will know how to take better care of him.
The Turkish Stairs, called Scala dei Turchi in Italian, is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Italy and is frequently featured in the books of Inspector Montalbano by the famous author Andrea Camilleri.
IT TAKES TURKISH STAIRS TO AUCTION! TARGET ELON MUSK…
Sciabarrà, who previously worked for the local chamber of commerce, laid out his claim to ownership based on 19th-century heritage documents. His share of the cliff was given back after an investigation was opened for occupying state-owned land.
Sciabarrà said he is now putting the site up for auction after requests from local and regional authorities to introduce measures to better protect the site or turn it into a nature reserve were rejected. “We’re putting it up for auction, which primarily appeals to Elon Musk,” Sciabarrà said.
The cliff, in the form of a huge staircase stretching from the southern Sicilian coast to the Mediterranean, has been eroded naturally, but also by the influence of large numbers of tourists. Some even stole rocks made of soft white limestone. In January, some people defaced the landmark with red iron oxide dust.
The Turkish Stairs was temporarily closed and seized by prosecutors in early 2020 after complaints about it being poorly maintained. Sciabbarà was also investigated for offenses related to the protection of the site and was fined 9,100 euros last summer.
Angela, Sciabarrà’s daughter, said, “We wanted to donate it to the public administration, but we were also prevented from entrusting it to an environmental association. Tourists should be allowed to visit safely with controlled access, not easily jumped fences. Rockfall also needs to be prevented.” said.
LEBANONS ALSO CALL MUSK
On the other hand, the call made by the Lebanese to the famous billionaire, who bought Twitter for 44 billion dollars, astonished those who saw it. Some Lebanese called on social media to ask Elon Musk to buy their country and get it out of the crisis. While speaking to Elon Musk, a Twitter user used the phrase, “Hey, Elon Musk, would you consider buying Lebanon?” Another user said, “Hi Elon Musk, if you have extra coins, I know a country for sale just for you. Its name is Lebanon. If you think about it, let me know.”
Another user went even further and offered Musk to change the name of the country if he bought it. “Buy Lebanon and we’ll proclaim you king. We’ll even change the name of the country to ‘Lebelon’.” He also shared this offer on social media.
