One of the best alpine skiers in Finland Rosa Pohjolainen gets a long break due to a serious knee injury. The knee ligament that snaped across the algae exercises will be corrected with surgery on May 5th.

Known as a pleasure pill on the slopes, the 18-year-old from Jyväskylä admits that the injury and the break of about nine months in front of him have kept his mind low.

– It’s a nasty setback. However, I am only 18 years old and this is another big injury for me. Yes it takes hard and annoying. Next season, I would have gotten good start numbers and a place to hit when the result came last season, Pohjolainen says by phone.

Knee injuries are common in alpine skiing. For the Nordic people, the injury is the second in just over a year. In January 2021, he collapsed during drills and his knee ligament and helix were damaged.

In March 2022, Pohjolainen twisted his knee in the pairing of the European Youth Winter Olympics in Vuokatti, but based on magnetic images, it was estimated that the injury would heal on its own at rest.

After a short break, the knee was not as good as the North had imagined. A month later, the cross tie slammed across in a normal practice turn at Levi.

Nordic: The future worries and makes us think

According to the Nordic, he can return to the skis about six months after the operation, in November.

– Add three more months to catch up. At that point, the World Cup and European Cup seasons are already being tapped. Unfortunately, next season is over for me, Pohjolainen regrets and continues:

– Unfortunately, these are part of the nature of the species. Rarely, however, can these be terribly avoided. The rehabilitation process is long. Let’s start with the basics and try walking. Then an attempt is made to regain strength and nervousness.

From his previous knee injury, Pohjolainen recovered from the best of his career and took 14th place in the World Cup slalom in Schladming. The first career drop in Beijing ended in suspension. Prior to his injury, Pohjolainen won the EYOF gold slalom in March in Vuokatti.

The future of the Nordic as an alpine skier has been brightened up, but serious injuries have cast gloomy clouds over his career.

– Yes, it worries and wonders what will happen in the future. I am trying to cope with this and hope for better in the future, Pohjolainen says.

A high school student is also trying to find something positive about a sudden change in plans.

– At least I’ll get to school and get to the end of the law next spring. Yes it eats when you are away from the skis for a long time. But maybe it does pretty good in the summer when you get a little oxygen.
