Activists from the group Last Generation Austria today threw a black, oil-like liquid at a painting at the Leopold Museum in Vienna.
The painting, “Death and life”, is painted by Gustav Klimt and is protected by a glass screen. On Tuesday, entry to the museum was free thanks to sponsorship from an oil company. The climate activists’ action is said to have been a protest against oil drilling.
Recently, several similar climate actions have taken place at other museums. Among other things, activists tried to stick to Edward Munch’s famous painting “The Scream” at the National Museum in Oslo. In London tomato soup was thrown at a van Gogh painting and in Berlin mashed potatoes were thrown at a Claude Monet painting.
