Another annual series of summer events in Rodney

Toonie Tuesdays started in 2021. That summer Elgin County and West Elgin resurfaced the main road, keeping the road tough to navigate for the whole summer.

Bill and Michelle Trombley, who owned the ice cream shop at the time, got Kiwanis Club of Rodney and others on board to celebrate the opening of the street once it was finished. This wonderful event welcomed and brought together hundreds of local folks and their families to shake off the post-pandemic doldrums, providing a great opportunity to gather outdoors, to laugh, chat and eat at a very reasonable cost!

New light standards and flower baskets, benches, EV charging stations curbs, pavement and businesses all have added a beautiful setting for this event!

In those post-traumatic days, when people still weren’t gathering inside much, people yearned to get out of their homes, so they brought their chairs and got to visit with folks out on the street.

The Kiwanis Club of Rodney and the Rodney Lions Club, in partnership with The Rodney Scoop, present Toonie Tuesdays, from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 22, and Tuesday, Aug. 29, on Furnival Road in downtown Rodney. There will be $2 hotdogs and $2 kiddie cones of ice cream on offer. Also pop and chips will be available.

Furnival will be closed on Aug. 29 for a car show that will be on view along the street. Please support the merchants who will be open on these evenings, creating more of a whole street being open atmosphere!
