Another 26 dogs euthanized after severe neglect at kennels outside Linköping

It was on August 16 that staff from the County Administrative Board in Östergötland took immediate care of a kennel outside Linköping. The breeder had 125 dogs that came along in the county administration’s cars. It is the biggest concern that the Östergötland County Administrative Board has made regarding dogs.

Massive damage

Since before, 30 of the dogs in care have been euthanized. Today it was decided that another 26 dogs must be euthanized.

– Three dogs have died at the animal shelter, so a total of 59 dogs have died, says Kristoffer Hellberg at the county board.

“Terribly sad”

“These dogs have been in very severe pain due to, among other things, massive calculus and tooth loss, which can also cause difficulty in eating. They also have numerous other health problems of a chronic nature that cause pain and discomfort,” writes the County Administrative Board in its decision.

– It is terribly sad. With this decision, we want to prevent these dogs from being exposed to further suffering, says Kristoffer Hellberg, acting head of the Department for Animals, Rural Affairs and Food.

During Thursday, it was also decided that 43 of the dogs are judged to be in good enough health to be relocated.

SVT Nyheter Öst has previously reported that people raised the alarm about suspected neglect under the age of 14 to the county administrative board. The kennel was also affiliated with the Swedish Kennel Club, where affiliated members are expected to follow rules about serious breeding. See more in the clip below.
