Anonymouse emerges – is behind the mouse houses in Malmö

In 2016, the restaurants Noix de Vie and Il Topolino appeared on Bergsgatan in Malmö. But unlike other culinary supplements in the city, this was a miniature house with a suitable “must theme”. Behind the street art was an anonymous group that called themselves Anonymouse. For almost nine years, they have built everything from video stores and arcade halls to an interactive detective mystery. Everything in miniature, always anonymously. Until today when the two artists behind the street project chose to come forward and to say goodbye, which Sydsvenskan Be the first to tell you about.

– From the beginning it would be a photo project where I would photoshopping mouse stuff in a strange environment but then it developed into this which became an extension of what we thought would have been fun to see as a child, says Lupus Nensén from Anonymous.

It is he and Elin Westerholm who have set up the miniature houses at night that surprised spikes and pay attention to Malmö residents. Behind a bookshelf that serves as a Lönndörr, they have worked for almost nine years. Although acquaintances have visited there, no one has linked that it was precisely those who were behind it.

– Suddenly people cared and then it also felt like it was more fun to be able to work in the hidden. It became a bus and it was quite fun, says Elin Westerholm.

The houses quickly became a success

In Malmö, it has become a popular feature of the street scene every time a new work has been exhibited. On Bergsgatan today came a fierce stream with Malmö residents who wanted to take a picture or sit down on their knees to look properly on the details. And that it would be so appreciated no one thought from the duo from the beginning.

– It didn’t matter that much if it was noticed. We hoped that a handful of children would see it on Bergsgatan. The first night when we exhibited it we sat at a restaurant next door, two people saw it and we thought what a success. Then over a weekend it was snowing away and became very popular, says Lupus Nensén.

Although you have been anonymous, have you noticed what the project meant to the Malmö residents?

– They are great at hearing, they write and send messages. We also have to be there sometimes to keep order, change batteries on light trails and such. Then you can get stuck in a queue of people and wait. When we exhibited the video store on Stora Nygatan, I heard a woman say that she was there every day because people are so kind there. I thought that was very nice, says Elin Westerholm.
