Anomaly Agent Review: Combat Anomalies

Anomaly Agent is a 2D platform action game. Our main goal in the game is to advance in the story by cutting down the other enemies we encounter on the way to defeat the anomalies and by taking advantage of the abilities the game gives us. Anomaly Agent is seriously trying to tell you something. Rather than just focusing on the action, the game even created dialogues to keep you in the story. I can say that some of these dialogues are humorous and quite entertaining. In addition, I can say that the action system and immersiveness of the game are quite sufficient. The game literally throws abilities at you to keep you in the game. Most of these are quite sufficient in terms of feeling. Slashing enemies is a lot of fun.

Variety of Entertainment

One of the strongest aspects of Anomaly Agent is the combat system it offers. The first thing the game teaches you is the merging of enemies. In this way, the game uses the enemy types it has more effectively and offers you more enemy diversity. Two enemies unite and evolve into a stronger enemy. Moreover, you have all kinds of special abilities to cut down a wide variety of enemies. Above all, the basic combat dynamic of the game is based on making combos. There’s a hit feeling that makes you bite your lips as you feel like you’re dealing more damage with each combo move. Especially when you can destroy three or five enemies at the same time with that special move, you may even drool at your gamepad.

If you are familiar with 2D games, you know that in order to extend the duration of these games, they start you from the middle of nowhere every time you die, and then you progress by cutting the enemies you have already cut in the same way. Since the one who steals the minaret will also have his cover ready, they also came up with a cover for it called Souls-Like. That’s why I’ve avoided playing 2D games that looked great. One of my favorite features in Anomaly Agent is that when you die, it starts you just 1 minute behind. That’s the worst case scenario. In the Super Meatball logic, when you die, you can start right where you are and quickly dive into the action again, which is the biggest factor that keeps you in the game.

I mentioned that it unnecessarily extends the duration of 2D games. In games that take longer, they either give you a few mechanics that are not fun to keep the time longer, or they repeat the same mechanics and the game becomes repetitive, making you think “well bro, let’s finish it now and let’s go”. So, what do you think Anomaly Agent does when he runs out of materials? The game is over. The game, which has never tried to play overtime, seems to say “that’s all I have to say, see you later.” This again gives you an experience that lingers on your palate. You won’t faint from the game. However, there is a New Game + mode for those who love the action of the game, and they also said that there will be a Rogue-Like game type where you die and start again. Long story short, Anomaly Agent does not impose the clichés of 2D games on you, it offers them as options.

Dance of Notes

We talked about the delicious action of the game, it is impossible not to mention the spices of this action. The music of the game is really great. They are not at the level of masterpiece, but they convey the Cyberpunk environment in which the game takes place very well. While you and your character are slaying the enemies that are attacking you, the techno music of the game puts you in a great mood. It gives you the atmosphere of the game, and when you kill all the enemies and are ready to move on to your next mission, you feel like you have thrown yourself into a cool Bosphorus evening after a busy work day.

In addition, the atmosphere that this music of the game gives you is also present in the boss battles. It is admirable that each boss has separate stages and that the game uses its own dynamics as much as it can. However, sometimes these stages do not go from easy to difficult and can get confusing and the environmental interaction offered by the game can become repetitive. We can say that the boss battles were weak. Bosses can make the same move bluntly and annoy you. Sometimes you have no place to escape, but the save system of the game has covered these weaknesses very well. Otherwise, a big minus could have been written to the household. If it is a deliberate design choice, I can say that it is a very accurate choice.

The game also has a not very detailed but functional skill tree. You definitely feel like your character is improving, but it annoyed me that every time I got a health upgrade, it didn’t stay on the skill screen, but the game threw me to the game screen. A very small detail that some players may not even notice.

Although the dialogues of the game are very entertaining, the introduction of a dialogue every two steps separates us from the atmosphere. As a result, we are reading the dialogue, there is no cinematic narration or voice-over. Again, a small detail but worth paying attention to. The humor of the play goes head to head with this deficiency and tries to compensate for it. In general, reading the dialogue is not boring, on the contrary, it is very entertaining.

Conclusion

As a player who has been waiting to get into 2D action games for years but has never been able to get into that direction due to unnecessary lengths and ridiculous save systems, Anomaly Agent seemed like a medicine to me. Another nice detail is that the game that drew me to this genre comes from our country. If you are looking for a 2D action game that will allow you to spend a few hours of fun without worrying too much or being exposed to ridiculous save systems. Give Anomaly Agent a try. You can initiate a transfer on your own behalf.
