Tyson Fury defeated his hard-fought challenger Dereck Chisora in the WBC heavyweight title fight with a technical knockout in the 10th round.

Defending champion Tyson Fury defeated his challenger Derek Chisora by technical knockout in the WBC world heavyweight title fight late Saturday night. The match was contested at the home stadium of Premier League team Tottenham and was witnessed by almost 60,000 spectators.

The title fight went under the command of the pre-favorite Fury. Chisora landed a few good punches at the beginning of the first rounds, but they did not slow down the defending champion, who at times seemed almost toying with his opponent.

Chisora, who gave his all, fought in Fury’s rain of punches with guts from round to round. He took one hard hit after another and his eye was bricked shut, but the British boxer refused to quit until the end.

Judge Victor Loughlin stopped the match in the 10th inning.

– I felt good. I needed a few batches to get in. I haven’t boxed since April. I got some good shots in. But not to take anything away from Chisora, it was a pleasure to take on him. He’s a British hero,” Fury told BT Sport after the match.

– He is a tenacious guy. My punches would have knocked anyone else unconscious.

Fury reversed his decision to quit

Fury also won the duo’s two previous meetings in 2011 and 2014 and went into the match as the clear number one favorite. Fury’s record as a professional before tonight’s fight was 32 wins (23 of them by knockout) and one draw against Deontay Wilder of the United States. Chisora, on the other hand, had 33 wins and 12 losses.

For Chisora, 38, it was the first World Cup title since 2012.

Fury, 34, last defended his WBC title in April when he knocked out Brit Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium. After the victorious bout, Fury announced his retirement from boxing and debated the decision to quit throughout the summer.

– Many thanks to everyone who has influenced my career. After long and difficult discussions, I have decided to quit, Fury wrote on Twitter back in August.

However, Fury reversed his decision in October. The British star is believed to be preparing for the Chisora match against the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usykin to the encounter. Usyk holds the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight championship belts.

Usyk was there to watch the match.

Chisora foretold the coming dawn in his speech after the match.

– Thanks Tyson. The big match is coming. Everyone wants to see one champion in the heavyweight division.
