Street news through the years
Straatnieuws has been through a lot in thirty years. It was founded in 1994 as the first homeless newspaper in the Netherlands. In 2020, the newspaper stopped its paper edition as a result of the corona crisis. In the meantime, they published several special editions, culminating in an interview with the Pope in 2015. Representing the Netherlands at the Street Football World Cup for the homeless 10 years ago was also a special moment for the newspaper. A low point was the treasurer and former PvdA councilor who stole tens of thousands of euros from the coffers of Straatnieuws, almost bankrupting the newspaper.
