Anne paid SEK 1,000 a month for broadband – had enough

Broadband prices have increased by 25 percent since 2022, according to Bredbandsval. When pensioner Anne Lintala’s TV and broadband fee was raised to SEK 1,000 a month, she reached her limit.
– You can buy a lot of food for that money.

The average price for broadband has increased from SEK 385 to SEK 483 a month since December 2022. This is shown by new figures from the comparison service Bredbandsval.

Inflation and reduced fiber deployment are the main reasons why broadband has become more expensive, says Alexander Widell, CEO of Bredbandsval. But he does not rule out that some broadband companies may have raised prices more than necessary.

– It is a fairly high price increase, 25 percent. But it’s an open market and people are willing to pay for it. You need broadband, electricity and water to get the household going, he says.

“It can not be true”

One who has noticed rising broadband prices is pensioner Anne Lintala. For 100 megabit broadband and a standard TV subscription, the monthly fee was SEK 1,002.

– When the bill came I thought: “Well, this can’t be true! I have to do something about it”. It was too expensive.

Allente is one of the companies that has raised broadband prices in recent years. According to Mahmoud Mustapha, commercial manager at Allente, the price trend is due to increased costs.

– When we look at our margins and how they have developed, they are relatively unchanged. Given that our costs have increased, so have consumer prices.

Prices may increase further in the future

Shortly after Anne Lintala received her bill for one thousand kroner, she changed broadband provider. By exposing several broadband companies to competition, she managed to cut her costs in half.

– If you are not on your guard and keep track, then what happened to me with Allente happens. The price increases year by year and it never ends.

Alexander Widell believes that broadband will become more expensive in the future.

– We see that prices have gone up month by month since 2022, so there is reason to believe that they will continue to climb upwards.
