We say yes to candidate country status for both Ukraine and Moldova. Then it will follow conditions before you can start starting negotiations, says Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) in connection with the EU Committee’s meeting on Friday.
However, Georgia is left out.
The three EU heavyweights Germany, France and Italy announced on Thursday together with Romania that they want Ukraine to be immediately accepted as a candidate country for the union.
The initiative was supported by the party leaders of the Swedish Moderates and Liberals. Ulf Kristersson called on the Swedish government to push the line ahead of the European Council meeting next week.
