For ten years thanked Anja Pärson no to being in the Master of Masters. When she finally accepted, an injury put an end to the 42-year-old.
But before the recordings of the 16th edition of SVT’s hit program, nothing stood in the way.
– Now it has to be done. It was inevitable last year to get injured, so now I’m trying to stay on my feet, Anja Pärson told TT when her participation in the Champions of Champions 2024 was completed.
The changes in the Master of Masters 2024
This year’s edition of the program contains several changes, so that the results in the competitions will be even more important.
In addition, all participants are included right from the start. Besides Anja Pärson participates Sebastian Larsson (football), Johanna Ahlm (handball) Joel Lundqvist (ice hockey), Johanna Davidsson (adventurer), Emma Johansson (cycling), Tony Rickardsson (speedway), Jimmy Samuelsson (wrestling) and Anna Wijk (floorball).

Anja Pärson’s fear before Jägarvilan
Already in the first program, the participants are challenged in the classic “Jägarvila”. A branch where alpine stars have shone in previous seasons.
Something that made Anja Pärson feel pressured to say the least. The 42-year-old says she didn’t dare train for the program, but tried two to three times without maxing out because she was so afraid of getting bad results.
– I already knew when I accepted that this is the branch everyone wants to see me do. With the history I have as an athlete, I think people have high expectations of me. There was only one thing, to stand the longest and preferably take the record from Järbyn (Patrik Järbynalpine skier edited note), she tells SVT Sport.
The night before the competition was tough.
– It was anxious early on. I didn’t sleep much the night before, she says.
