Ingemar Stenmark continues to amaze all Swedes.
Now he is widely praised after his powerful veteran debut in the pole vault.
– I am really impressed by him, says Anja Pärson to Expressen.
It was at the end of last year that Ingemar Stenmark announced that he changed sports in the autumn of his age. At the age of 67, he unexpectedly launched a veteran venture into the daring sport of pole vaulting.
Stenmark’s success
“Stenis” had pole vaulted as a youth and now wanted to do it again with a small dream of reaching the veteran WC in Gothenburg in 2024. Now the alpine legend has made his debut as a 68-year-old in his new sport and it was a great success Immediately.

During a competition in Sollentuna, Stenmark cleared the height of 2.70 meters and thus broke a new year’s best for men over 65. But Ingemar also admits after the competition that he has much more to give and higher heights in him, the Swedish outdoor record for men over 65 is 3.35 meters.
Anja’s crazy tribute
The ski icon is also not sure if he will bet against the veteran WC. But one who is absolutely sure of that thing is another iconic alpine skier, viz Anja Pärson.

She is convinced that winner Ingemar Stenmark will give everything in the new sport of pole vaulting.
– It is clear that he will become world champion in that, everyone understands that. I am very impressed by him, she tells Expressen and admits that she has followed the idol’s new sports career, but is not particularly suited to the same sport herself.
– I think my bottom is a little too heavy for me to fly high in the pole vault. But why not do some other sport, I’m thinking about it a bit without having decided which sport.
