The chimpanzee drama in Furuvik Park continues. During Friday morning there was a breakthrough for the animal keepers. A caretaker was able to get in to the escaped chimpanzees where they were offered food, warmth and hot chocolate.
– We have always worked on getting in safely. The positive thing is that we have seen the three chimpanzees, which we saw yesterday, still moving around the house, but the sad thing is that the chimpanzee we saw lying down yesterday, is still lying down, says Annika Troselius, information manager at Parks and resorts, which owns Furuviksparken, to TV4 Nyheterna.
Troselius says that the animal keepers have now succeeded in blocking off part of the house, which means that attendants and veterinarians can come into contact with the escapees in a safer way. A health assessment is now pending and there are fears that the fourth chimpanzee is no longer alive.
– Our vets are incredibly careful, we’ve only been able to see it via a drone so they can’t make a real statement. But the fact that a chimpanzee is lying down in the same place as it was down yesterday is unfortunately not a good sign.
Meanwhile, zookeepers are working to get the chimpanzees back into their enclosures and find out how they were able to get out.
