A serval is a feline that originally comes from Africa and lives there on the savannahs and grasslands. In the Netherlands, the animal is sometimes kept as a pet.
Purchasing a serval as a pet is prohibited from 1 July. To prevent people from releasing unauthorised pets into the wild, animals that are currently kept as pets may remain with their owners until their death.
