(Finance) – “We need to share the education of our male and female students to root and make the culture of respect for the human person and for women flourish in a society where unfortunately various forms of discrimination still remain within our families and in social life.
In the last employment contract for School, University and Research workers, as a union we proposed and obtained increase the days of leave for women victims of violence but this is a small compensation for an evil that must be eradicated at its base with the construction of a new model of social life, a challenge for today’s educational community”. Marcello Pacifico, national president of Anief, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with the latest global estimates that are alarming to say the least: it has been calculated that only in 2023 at a global level “Every day 140 women and girls lose their lives due to domestic violence, with one victim every 10 minutes“.
Pacifico recalled that “one year has passed since Law 24 November 2023, n. 168 containing provisions for the fight against violence against women and domestic violence, yet in Italy we have had to register 100 confirmed victims of femicide, one every three days, with increases among male murderers among those under 25 and over 67. A lot has been done, perhaps, but not enough. The theme of patriarchy in our society has historical and cultural roots that create fertile ground for certain attitudes aggressive transform into pure violence, annihilation of the individual, feminicide”. According to the independent trade unionist, therefore, “we can build a more just society where women can finally be respected and we must do it starting from our schools which are pink for 77% of our educators”.
