Anger’s success – first men’s victory in four years

Sweden’s cross-country men have been waiting for a World Cup victory for over four years.

Edvin Anger fixed the steak.

The 22-year-old won the classic sprint in Les Rousses.

It’s so surreal, says the 22-year-old.

It’s Anger’s first individual World Cup win of his career, and he took it in impressive, and daring, fashion. Everyone who earlier in the day tried to take home a heat by pulling away from the rest of the field early on had to regret it.

But Anger succeeded. Heading into the race, he was challenged in the final only by Ansgar Evensen, but the Norwegian could not beat the Swede. Anger was first across the finish line and shouted his joy.

It’s so surreal. I am so happy. I had a good day and good skiing. It feels incredible, says Edvin Anger in the victory interview in Viaplay.

The 22-year-old had not even reached a sprint final earlier this winter. However, he has shown that he is probably better than ever before. Not least after the unexpected second place in the chase start in Italian Toblach on New Year’s Day.

The victory also means a lot for the Swedish men’s national team as a whole. The last blue-and-yellow men’s skater to win a World Cup competition before Saturday was Oskar Svensson, who won the freestyle sprint in Ulricehamn on February 6, 2021.

This was my first final this year and I just thought “take the chance now”, says Edvin Anger.

And I won. Now maybe there will be some cake and then I will look forward to 20 kilometers tomorrow.

On Sunday, a 20 kilometer mass start awaits in classic style.
