Angelina Jolie takes over Warhol building

According to the site, the deal has been confirmed by the real estate agency. The actress will lease the 6,600-square-foot space for eight years for the new creative collective, Atelier Jolie.

Warhol originally bought the building in 1970 and Basquiat rented the second-floor space soon after they met.

According to the estate agency, the house’s exterior, adorned with street art by Basquiat who began his career as one half of the graffiti art duo Samo, will be kept as a memorial.

Even before the artist duo moved in in the 70s, the building had a rich history. Built in the 1860s, it was bought by Paolo Antonio Vaccarelli, known as gangster Paul Kelly, who opened the Brighton Athletic Club there in 1904. It was then used, among other things, as a metal workshop until 1970. More recently, the property housed an exclusive Japanese restaurant.

Before the lease was signed, the property was out for a rent of 60,000 dollars, equivalent to nearly 650,000 Swedish kronor, per month.
