ANFIA: proposals for the Italian automotive industry and criticism of the delays of the 2024 ecobonus

ANFIA proposals for the Italian automotive industry and criticism of

(Telestock) – ANFIA attended today’s meeting convened by Minister Urso through the presence of the President Roberto Vavassori. At the end of the thanks for what has been done by the Ministry and the Government in general, the President briefly commented on the 4 topics on the agenda.

Ecobonus 2024 report: the measure is good, except for some possible adjustments in the distribution of funds between one emission band and another, to further stimulate the sales of cars with very low and zero environmental impact. The implementation times are less good, for which a multi-year programminge. The ecobonus is intended as a one-off intervention to initiate certain sales dynamics, both because it is expensive to maintain for a long time and because it is not able to replace the natural mechanisms of the market.

“The time has come to dedicate at least as much attention to policies to support supply – the ANFIA President added Roberto Vavassori – therefore to industrial policies to accompany the entire automotive production chain in the energy transition, which is not only made up of manufacturers and component manufacturers, but also by sectors such as engineering companies and commercial and industrial vehicle fitters, which boast a high level of expertise and specialization. We must offer everyone solutions and new business opportunities. Ours is the only chain that is required, at European level, to make a demanding and mandatory energy transition within shorter timeframes than other sectors”.

Attracting foreign investments in Italy: as done during the two recent missions to China following Minister Urso and Prime Minister Meloni, it is time to show Chinese OEMs and in general potential new investors that Italy has a complete supply chain, already available and in many cases at the forefront of technology. The policies to attract a possible second Manufacturer to our territory go in the direction of enhancing synergies, so as to obtain higher national production volumes to guarantee the stability of the supply chain.

Target of 1 million light vehicles produced in Italy: ANFIA hopes that the agreement with Stellantis can be concluded very quickly with the company’s concrete commitment to increasing national production – unfortunately the production of cars and light commercial vehicles in Italy in the first half of 2024 is around 300,000 units, -25% on the same period in 2023, and no growth volumes are expected for the second part of the year – to not abandon strategic research and innovation activities in the territory and to strengthen and not ‘dissolve’ relationships with the Italian supply chain.

Our associates – both small and medium-sized companies and multinationals – are experiencing an increasingly unsustainable situation. They must not be discriminated against for equal competitiveness compared to offers from ultra-low cost countries. In addition to having become internationalized over the years, many Italian component companies intend to maintain a strong bond with the Stellantis Group and therefore the strategic commitment of the latter can seriously compromise their survival.

In agreement with the Ministry, the priority issues identified in the study for the Automotive Table will be addressed as soon as possible.
