(Finance) – Production of cars alone in September amounted to around 25 thousand units, down 50.5% y/y. In the cumulative nine months, however, 256 thousand cars were produced, a decrease of 38.3% y/y. The total number of vehicles produced in the first three quarters of 2024 is close to 474 thousand units, down by 27.6% compared to the same period of 2023. This is what emerges from the preliminary data from Anfia.

In September 2024 the production of the Italian automotive industry as a whole it records a 30% drop compared to September 2023, while in the first nine months of 2024 it decreased by 19.6%. Looking at the individual sectors, the production of motor vehicles (light and heavy cars and vans) marks -42.6% in September and -25.5% in the nine months; bodies and trailers stable in September and +9.5% in the nine months; parts and accessories -16.9% and -18.4%.

The United States represents, in value, the first export destination country, with a share of 19.4%, followed by Germany (15%) and France (11.3%). In the same period, theexport of automotive components it is worth 2.2 billion euros, with a positive balance of 595 million euros.

The turnover of the sector presents a decline of 29.5% in August, due to a domestic component falling by 30.6% and a foreign component at -28.7%. In the first eight months of 2024, turnover fell by 11.5% (-15.3% domestic turnover and -7.8% foreign turnover). Finally, the turnover of parts and accessories presents a negative trend change of 21.8% in August, while in the January-August period it records a decrease of 11.5%.
