The achievement gold is awarded in January.
The jury includes, among others, Anette Norberg – who is already selecting a favorite for the award.
– He is definitely one of the stronger candidates, says the curling icon to Sportbibeln.
Annette Norberg is a great athlete in Swedish sports history, and is one of the world’s best and most meritorious curling players ever. Before Anette ended her professional career in 2013, she won two Olympic golds, three WC golds, and seven EC golds.
Norberg’s candidate
Despite his many merits and heavy achievements, it was never enough to win the Bragdguldet. But nowadays Anette Norberg is a member of Svenska Dagbladet’s fire committee, which she has been since 2015. In the bragdjuryn she sits together with, among others Thomas Brolin, Magdalena Forsberg, Carolina Klüft, Mats Sundin and Jorgen Persson, and more. During his time as a member, Norberg and the gang have voted for athletes who Nils van der Poel (2022), Hanna Öberg (2018) and Sarah Sjostrom (2017) to the achievement gold.

In January, it is time again to appoint a winner of the achievement medal, which is awarded during the Sports Gala. When Sportbibeln talks to Anette, she says that she has not yet spent much time thinking about who deserves the award this year.
– But spontaneously I still feel that Daniel Ståhl should be able to sleep quite well, says Norberg, with a pat on the hearth:
– I don’t want to say that I specifically think he should get it. That’s right, when we have these achievement gold meetings, we pick out a number of candidates, then you get to know a little more background and so on. It is only when you have seen the overall picture that you really form an opinion. But right now, Ståhl is absolutely one of the stronger candidates that pops up in my mind.
Duplanti’s downside
Armand Duplantis has set double world records this year, winning WC gold and the Diamond League. But there is one detail that hurts Mondo’s chances of winning the award again.
– It is stated in the statutes for the achievement gold that, if you are to receive it a second time, then it must be something that is completely exceptional. After all, Armand is exceptional throughout, and he will be exceptional for several years to come as well, says Norberg.

Duplantis took home the feat medal in 2020, the year he first broke the world record (he then broke his own world record a week later). It thus impairs his chances for the prize for this year. But not only that.
– Then there are also specific rules around – it must be a feat. That is to say, it must be something that is a little out of the ordinary. That Mondo jumps so high is not really out of the ordinary in his case. But what Daniel Ståhl did, it was out of the ordinary. So that is, I think, what speaks for Ståhl. But Armand will certainly be part of the discussion as well.
And maybe a certain ping-pong national team?
– Exactly, yes.
