If you want to get rid of killer slugs – get ducks.
That’s how Anette and Stefan Nilsson from Svalöv got rid of the problem.
– In the evenings when the ducks have been outside for a long time, their beaks are sometimes completely slimy. It can look a bit unfresh, says Anette.
A cool and rainy spring results in killer slugs occupying the garden.
And as we all know, they are a “nightmare” to get rid of.
But Anette and Stefan Nilsson have found the solution to the problem – namely ducks.
– We have a fairly large garden so we don’t have time to go and pick everything. Ducks eat everything that moves and the snails are easy to find because they move at ground level, says Anette Nilsson.
“Can look unfresh”
The ducklings learn to eat snails from their parents and find it a real delicacy.
– There is the occasional snail in the garden, but we have a large vegetable garden and we get to keep lettuce and everything else, she says.
In Nyhetsmorgon, you can see Stefan Nilsson throwing snails in front of the ducks.
– They see very poorly, so you have to throw the snail close, says Anette while a duck eats the snail in the background.
– In the evenings when they have been out for a long time, their beaks are sometimes completely slimy, it can look a bit unfresh.
A common trick
Does it have to be a certain type of duck?
– Many people think that you have to have musk ducks. But you can have Swedish yellow or bleking duck. Many have running stripes as well.
According to Anette Nilsson, ducks are a common trick to keep the snails away.
– Vineyards in South Africa have large duck armies that go and pick.
