Anesthetic, here is the ideal essential oil for joints

Anesthetic here is the ideal essential oil for joints

Arthritis, sport, sprain… Certain essential oils can immediately relieve joint pain.

Joints that are overused (by sports for example), traumatized (after a fall, a sprain, a dislocation, etc.) or inflamed due to an illness (arthritis) can be very painful and disabling on a daily basis. Properly used, certain natural remedies, anti-inflammatory and analgesic propertiescan relieve pain or be considered in addition to conventional treatments to improve results.

Just one drop is enough

For the relief of pain in the musculoskeletal system and in particular in the joints, peppermint essential oil can be of great help. “A single drop on the area to be treated will silence the pain by an “icicle effect” anesthetic“, reports Philippe Banel, aromatherapist, in the “Great guide to essential oils, hydrosols and vegetable oils” (DBS/Cosmetic Valley Editions).

For a special joint massagedilute 5 to 6 drops of Peppermint essential oil in 1 teaspoon anti-inflammatory vegetable oil which will reinforce the therapeutic action of the essential oil, namely:

  • Arnica vegetable oil
  • Nigella vegetable oil
  • Calendula vegetable oil

“In a small proportion in an anti-inflammatory synergyPeppermint essential oil will, through its power, provide welcome analgesia to painful joints.“, continues the aromatologist. For example, mix in a bottle: 20 drops of bay leaf EO, 20 drops of Wintergreen, 20 drops of Italian Helichrysum EO, 20 drops of Peppermint EO and 5 ml of Arnica vegetable oil. 3 applications per day in light massageswith 10 drops of the mixture (formula from the book “Essential Oils, it works! (Danièle Festy, Anne Dufour, Leduc S)).

Other EOs rich in β-caryophyllene

Please note, peppermint essential oil is prohibited to children under 7 years old, pregnant or breastfeeding women, epileptic or asthmatic people. You must respect the dosage because its “cold” effect is important. When in doubt, always ask advice to a pharmacist or to an essential oil professional before using them. Likewise, it is preferable to buy them in a pharmacy or specialized store rather than on the internet, to be sure of the composition, the concentration and to benefit from all the advice for risk-free use. “Overall, all essential oils rich in β-caryophyllene (Essential oil of Pepper, Ylang-Ylang, Peppermint, Copaiba…) could block cannabinoid receptorsinvolved in inflammation”, complete Xavier Fernandez, doctor of science, university professor, researcher at the Nice Institute of Chemistry, and co-author of “Great guide to essential oils, hydrosols and vegetable oils
