Andreas Almgren’s success continues.
At the Stockholm stadium, he secured a second Olympic ticket, at the distance of 5,000 meters.
From just the speed, he ran into a new Swedish record under the dream limit of 13 minutes.
– I do this in the middle of May. There is good capacity in the legs this summer, one might say, says one Andreas Almgren to Radiosporten.
The announcer in the arena called out 12.59.77, but according to the live statistics of the competition he finished in 12.59.82.
Almgren’s success
But the difference matters less. Both are under the dream limit of 13 minutes, under the Olympic qualifying limit of 13.05 and under the previous Swedish record of 13.01.70.

That record was set by Almgren himself two years ago.
– These are dream times, says the national athletics team’s captain Kajsa Bergqvist to Radiosporten.
When Almgren ran to the finish line during a summery May evening at Stockholm’s stadium, he secured an Olympic double. Almgren had already secured his ticket to the Olympics in Paris this summer, at his better distance: 10,000 meters.
