Just the day before the competition, Almgren announced that he had to retire and go home. The reason was a stress reaction in the tibia and thus the dream came crashing down.
Andrea’s nightmare
Andreas had to leave Paris in tears without having run a single meter and now opens up about how incredibly difficult it was.
– It was tough. I did what I could but felt the day before the competition day that it wasn’t working. It’s always hard when you go from hope to doubt and then back to hope and then doubt again. It has been difficult to see what you have dreamed about in recent years, but at the same time it creates quite a lot of motivation and that you want to return again in four years. So I use it as fuel instead, he tells Radiosporten.

Now Andreas Almgren is waiting for answers from the X-ray before he can continue with his training and set new goals for the future.
– It feels pretty good now, hopefully it’s not too far until I can get started with everything again. I’m actually already qualified in the 10,000m for the World Championships in Tokyo next year, so that’s the next big event. But until then, there are some competitions on the way, but it’s nice to know that I’m already qualified for the WC, so that’s what I’m looking forward to, he says to the radio channel.
