Andersson (S): The government wants to silence the opposition

The Social Democrats received SEK 152 million from lottery income in 2021, from the A lotteries, the Kombilottery, Femman and Glädjelotten, reports The Express.

According to information to SVT Nyheter, the government’s and SD’s proposal to stop political lottery operations is aimed at the Social Democrats.

– We have to tighten the money tap that finances the social democracy because they have rigged the whole system, says Tobias Andersson (SD), chairman in the nutrition committee for Aftonbladet.

“Tried to silence civil society”

Magdalena Andersson believes that the proposal follows a pattern.

– There are also other critical voices they want to silence. They have tried to silence civil society, journalists but also Myndighetsverige.

SVT: In what way are you silenced by introducing a ban on party lotteries?

– It is more difficult for us to conduct our business and be a strong voice for ordinary people. What separates us from the government parties and SD is that we don’t get a lot of funding from business. Just like other popular movements, we finance ourselves via lotteries.

“Terrible”

According to Magdalena Andersson, it is possible to connect the government’s and SD’s proposals with authoritarian movements in other countries.

– It is terrible that we have such a situation in Sweden where the government specifically wants to direct legislation that goes against the largest opposition party. It is very unswedish, she says and continues:

– It is a new right we see in Sweden, obviously inspired by authoritarian movements in other countries that want to silence, intimidate and threaten critical voices and thus remove the democratic conversation.

SVT Nyheter is looking for the government.
