The knife attack during Almedalen Week in Visby last week is being investigated by Säpo as a terrorist crime through murder. The detained 32-year-old is also suspected of preparing for a terrorist crime through preparation for murder, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announces.

“Now Säpo is taking over the investigation and the authorities are working to investigate the course of events and the motive for the act. They have my and the government’s full support “, says Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson in a written comment to TT.

She says that the act shook us all and that “it is obvious that we must do more to strengthen security”.

She points out that terrorist legislation has been strengthened and penalties sharpened, and that the police and security police have been given stronger resources and strengthened powers.

“We will continue to work for the political direction with full force,” says Andersson.
