S leader Magdalena Andersson says in an interview with SvD that she wants Sweden to take a clearer tone internationally to protect civilians in Gaza.
– The situation that prevails in Gaza, that it could have arisen at all, is a disgrace in history, she says.
She wants Sweden to make concrete demands for a ceasefire. In addition to that, Andersson also wants the government to demand that Israel open crossings in northern Gaza and demand that Hamas release the hostages.
She also wants the government to put more pressure on the EU and the UN to provide emergency aid.
Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) writes in an email to SvD that Magdalena Andersson is “knocking open doors”.
“On Swedish initiative, a large number of EU and like-minded countries have wooed Israeli representatives to forcefully put pressure on Israel to increase humanitarian access,” he writes, among other things.
