The day after M leader Ulf Kristersson, on Tuesday morning it was Magdalena Andersson’s turn to be questioned in Sweden’s Radio Ekot.
Andersson was asked, among other things, questions about defense funding, gang crime and wallet issues – and when asked about reintroduced property tax or a possible increase in the existing municipal property tax, the Prime Minister attacked the Moderates. Something she had already done before in the matter.
– It is completely absurd that the Moderates are running a campaign about this, said Magdalena Andersson.
– Now we have been in government for eight years, they were out and about about this in 2014, 2018 and now in 2022, and we have not reintroduced the property tax and have no plans or proposals whatsoever.
“No plans to do this”
At the same time, the Left Party demands a new property tax. The previous government partner, the Green Party, also wants to see more capital taxes, including on some properties. Several of the Social Democrats’ party districts want the party to go to the polls to reintroduce the tax, and LO wants to see a new property tax.
– I think that we have shown in the last eight years that we will not reintroduce the old property tax.
SR: But can you promise that you will not touch the taxation of properties for the next four years?
– We social democrats will not go to the polls to reintroduce any property tax.
Recently, Annie Lööf came out and said that no increased taxes on work, savings or housing until 2026 will be one of the Center Party’s most important demands in order to release the next prime minister.
– I know what I think about this issue, so there is no doubt. But if I start setting up lots of red lines, on highly relevant issues, then I risk further creating deadlocks after the election when we risk having a very uncertain parliamentary situation, Andersson said.
