Magdalena Andersson is in Brussels to meet other social democratic party leaders on the sidelines of the summit of the EU countries.
Right now, however, her focus is more on NATO than the EU, given the Hungarian announcements to approve Finland’s membership in NATO on Monday – while the process with Sweden only “continues”.
— In the community we have in the European Union, it is of course completely unreasonable that Hungary does not ratify Sweden at the same time as ratifying Finland. Here I am convinced that the countries (at the EU summit) will put pressure on Hungary to do so, Andersson told TT on his way into the S meeting.
— This is clearly a major setback for the Swedish government. They now need help from other countries, says Andersson.
Also present at the S meeting is NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg – former S-marked Prime Minister of Norway – who, however, does not want to comment on the issue on the way in.
But Andersson will push him.
— Of course I will take it up. I also expected Ulf Kristersson to raise this with (Hungarian Prime Minister) Viktor Orbán today. It is of the utmost importance, says Magdalena Andersson in Brussels.
