“A terrible crime has taken place in Eskilstuna tonight. A woman and a child have been shot at a playground. The brutal and wanton violence that plagues our society must end. My thoughts go out to the victims and their relatives,” writes Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) in a comment to TT.
“Shooting children is never an individual case but an attack on our entire society. And when society is attacked, society must also defend itself, with all the means that our rule of law has at its disposal,” continues the prime minister.
Critical of the government
KD leader Ebba Busch criticizes the government.
“A woman and a small child. On a playground on a Friday night. No more needs to be said. This government has not done enough and is ultimately responsible for curbing the violence. We must regain security. Sweden needs a new start,” writes Busch on Twitter.
M leader Ulf Kristersson writes on Facebook:
“A woman and a child are shot on a playground. Regardless of what is behind this, it is something completely incredible. So terrible it’s hard to find words. My thoughts are with the woman and the little child.”
Arranges election meeting in Eskilstuna
Jimmie Åkesson (SD) calls the act “so grotesque, so dark, so horrific, that there are no words to describe it”.
“May the injured get the best care that can be offered and may this end in something other than black tragedy”, he writes on Twitter and also announces that he is changing the schedule and will put in an extra election meeting in Eskilstuna next week.
Johan Pehrson (L) writes in a tweet that hate and violence must not win.
“Tragic record in shootings in Sweden in 2022. This reduces freedom and tears Sweden apart. Lives are extinguished and dreams are crushed,” writes the L leader.
MP’s spokesperson Märta Stenevi tweets:
“A terrible crime in Eskilstuna, a shooting at a playground. My thoughts go out to the woman, the child and their relatives. The violence must end.”
