There are thunderstorms in western Sweden – and few people are happier about it than former part-time firefighter Anders Isaksson.

The weather makes him remember the times he himself has been near lightning strikes.

– It’s so delicious, it’s such powers. It just bangs and you feel the pressure in your chest, says Anders Isaksson.

The severe thunderstorm that swept over western Sweden has created chaos both at Liseberg and at Landvetter Airport, but has also spread joy and excitement in its parts.

At least in the parish of Dalskog in the municipality of Mellerud, where Anders Isaksson, 56, has followed the weather drama from his farm with a sense of rising rapture.

– It has thundered something like that into the bench. It’s awesome, I like thunderstorms myself and when there’s a bang like that, then it’s bingo, says Anders Isaksson.

“It was definitely pink”

He says that the prevailing weather meant that he had to adjust his plans for the day. But that’s not something he worries about.

– The intention was that I would help the neighbor and thresh grain, but none of that will happen because it has rained a little, it is still full speed ahead. I took a picture of a pink flash and it was kind of cool. There was no crap on the camera lens, it was definitely pink.

Anders Isaksson, who in his free time is involved in a village association which in September will hold what he describes as the world’s largest exhibition of vintage forest machines, has previously been active as a part-time firefighter. He says that in connection with his calls, he has twice been in the vicinity of a lightning strike.

Felt the pressure in my chest

– I was thirty to forty meters from the impact. It’s so delicious, it’s such powers. You only see the light and it just crashes and you feel the pressure in your chest, says Anders Isaksson and continues:

– Here where I live, we have power lines, so it is not unusual for lightning to strike. I have respect for the thunder. I know what it can do.

When Anders Isaksson talks to Aftonbladet, the rain pours relentlessly down on the village.

– The worst is in the west. It’s still full speed ahead. But right here it’s not that dangerous. Here it only fell 55 millimeters.
