Kristine Stavås Skistad tried to defeat Jonna Sundling by all possible means.
Now SVT expert Anders Blomquist is raging against the Norwegian’s attempt to shut down Sundling.
– I don’t think that’s okay, he tells SVT Sport.
For the Third World Cup in a row proves Jonna Sundling30, that she is by far the best in sprint. Oberstdorf 2021, Planica 2023 and Trondheim 2025 speak their clear language. Add to that an Olympic gold from Beijing 2022 and you have Sundling’s fact from the last four championships: four straight championship gold in sprint.
Stavås Skistad’s tactics against Sundling
The home rider Kristine Stavås Skistad26, lay behind Sundling and tried to get past on several occasions without really being close to taking over the lead. At some point she managed to get around and her goal was to block the way for the Swedish. However, it was a tactic that did not work in the long run.
“I tried everything I could and it didn’t work today,” she notes for SVT.

Jonna was prepared for Kristine Stavås Skistad to do something similar, as she showed that kind of behavior before.
– We started to see those trends in previous races as well, so it was not something that I was very surprised by. At the same time, I did not want to keep up and restart so it was that I drove a little bounce slalom, says Sundling.
The Swede seemed to take it easy. She won anyway. At the same time, Stavås Skistad got the question from SVT if she thinks Jonna Sundling took up badly and was annoyed at her actions.
“No, I don’t think so,” she replies.
Anders Blomquist cursed in Norwegian
One who, on the other hand, got really angry with her behavior was SVT’s ski expert Anders Blomquist who was in place in Trondheim. He rejected her full tactic.
– I think Jonna was a little scared when she was closed over and over again by Skistad, which I thought went beyond the border there not to go in a straight line. You have to choose tracks like first, but then to go and operate and close someone who tries to go faster, I don’t think I’m okay, he tells SVT Sport.

In the end, Jonna Sundling won the World Cup gold and that is Blomquist very happy for. That it did not have to be a matter of questionable situations and rule violations here and there.
– So I’m very happy that Jonna could decide. Because she was by far the best skier today, he says.
Big congratulations to Jonna Sundling who thus wins her third straight World Cup gold in sprint. It’s an incredible feat! Especially to beat Kristine Stavås Skistad on the Norwegian home ground in front of the eyes of the audience in Trondheim. Incredibly!
