Ancient tree from Overlangbroek nominated for Tree of the Year

The ash, a deciduous tree, stands on an old plot that dates back to the Middle Ages. “This is historic,” says Ton Cornelissen, initiator of the national tree election. The wood was used to make tools, among other things. “In the past, the branches were cut off every four or five years. But the coppice is no longer needed, so the branches grow upwards,” Cornelissen explains. “That’s why they get very beautiful shapes.”
