Analysis: “The regime in Iran wants to turn record low turnout into a victory”

Ahead of this year’s parliamentary elections in Iran, prominent opposition voices, both inside Iran and from exile, called for a boycott of the election.

And people may have been listening because the state news agency Irna reported that “around 41 percent” of the 61 million eligible voters cast their ballots.

It may not sound like a success, but that’s how the regime wants to present it.
