Analysis: The dormant West is digging a hole for itself – the Russian threat is still not taken seriously | Foreign countries

Germany and the United States would pressure Ukraine to negotiate

Western support for Ukraine is faltering across the Atlantic as well as in Europe, and the reason is not solely the work of a few Putin sympathizers, writes online journalist Tuukka Tervonen.

President of the United States Joe Biden invited Ukraine this week to Volodomyr Zelensky for a visit to the White House to show unwavering US support for a country battered by the Russian invasion.

It’s just a shame that the US support is specifically faltering at the moment.

During the fall, the United States did not get through new support packages for Ukraine. Senate Republicans just rejected the new packagein an effort to extort more money for US border enforcement.

The hardline Republicans in the House of Representatives have been for a long time criticized Ukrainian aid and would like to stop it wholly. Also a new Republican Speaker Mike Johnson wants to tie the future aid packages to the border allowance.

Aid to Ukraine has become so unpopular among Republican voters that Ukrainians may become the latest victims of the culture war raging in the United States.

And if blindly driving America first thinking Donald Trump re-elected president next year, Ukraine can say goodbye For US support and at the same time the US may leave farewell to NATO.

Europe is not at all ready for this, at least in the countries that support Ukraine.

Orbán’s mole job

The biggest opponent of Ukraine in Europe, Hungary Viktor Orbán again seems to be doing everything to ensure Russia’s victory in the war.

British newspaper Guardian revealed over the weekend Hungarians traveled to Washington to plan together with a Republican think tank how to prevent the United States from supporting Ukraine any more.

At the same time, Orbán is putting the brakes on the European Union new support package what you can.

There are plenty of doubts about the reasons for both Orbán’s and Trump’s opinion on Russia, but whatever the truth is, their actions still play into Putin’s pocket.

Europe’s promised aid to Ukraine it rains for one reason or another.

Where are the European grenades?

European Union has not completed even the use of frozen Russian funds for the benefit of Ukraine. They would be for 235 billion euros. At the same time, the EU countries are increased the Russian war chest by buying fossil fuels for 181 billion euros.

Ukraine has a dire shortage of artillery ammunition, but Europe has delivered only less than half of the promised million grenades. Actually, South Korea has delivered to Ukraine more artillery shells than all European countries combined.

When you consider that North Korea has delivered to Russia at least more than a million artillery shells, you can humorously say that the Koreas are waging a merciless proxy war through Ukraine and Russia while Europe is smiling next door.

Without US production capacity and support, Europe might unexpectedly to be the underdog to Russia.

Sleepwalking threatens Europe

Although Russia’s economy is smaller than Italy’s, for example, the eastern neighbor has transferred itself to a military economy and was able to increase its weapons production considerably.

Meanwhile, in Europe, both in Finland and in the continental locomotive also in Germany, the debate is mainly about the national debt. In the process think tanks and the intelligence services are desperately calling for a significant increase in defense spending.

They also warn that if Russia wins the war, it will not stop at Ukraine.

Despite the tough talk, the entire continent seems to be tying its hands behind its back, with the exception of the European countries, Poland do not equip themselves serious enough.

The media has started to talk about the West being tired of war, but there is absolutely no way to afford that now. Fatigue only leads to sleepwalking towards an even more serious crisis.

The West is so committed to Ukraine that if we let Russia win, it will be a clear message to the rest of the world that the system that prevailed after the Cold War and the hegemony of the West, especially the United States, is over, and its protection cannot be trusted at all.

In the worst scenario, Russia’s victory is combined with the withdrawal of the United States from NATO and Europe.

A more dangerous situation can hardly arise for European countries bordering Russia.
