Many thousands of demonstrators participate in the pro-Palestinian demonstrations that take place in the streets of Chicago. The demands concern an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and that certain arms deliveries to Israel end.
Kamala Harris has so far said that Israel has the right to defend itself, but that the killing of civilians must end. Israel policy now risks dividing the Democrats ahead of the presidential election unless Harris succeeds in appeasing the progressive part of the party, with promises of a tougher stance on Israel.
