Sweden can win medals at the European Championships in both 10,000 and 100 meters. Norway has enormous scope in Rome.
Sweden has excelled in pole vaulters in recent years’ track and field competitions by Armand Duplantisdiscus thrower Daniel Ståhl and a race walker Perseus Karlström thanks to.
Duplantis, a multiple ME man, is also the overwhelming favorite to win at the European Championships in Rome, but after him, the blue-yellows’ second strong gold candidate comes from long endurance journeys. 28 years old Andreas Almgren enters the 10,000 meter race held on the final day as a big champion favorite.
In the spring, the former middle-distance runner broke the all-time European statistics triple time (26.52.87). Almgren’s expectations of success are supported by his strength compared to other 10,000 meter runners. The Swede would also be a tough player in the 5,000 meters, but in Rome he will only run the 10th.
The Swedes have a unique situation in the men’s running distances, as there is also a chance of a medal in the 100 meters in the same games. 24 years old Henrik Larsson has broken the wild Swedish record of 10.08 this season and went to the Games in sixth place. A football legend “Spirit” by Larsson the namesake is aiming for at least a place in the finals, but with top success, a medal is not impossible.
In the men’s 10,000 meters, a Swedish athlete has never reached the EC medals. Men’s hundred Lennart Stantberg was bronze in 1938. When talking about Swedish sprinters, I remember well by Johan Wissman 200 meter silver medal from the 2006 Göteborg European Championships.
Ingebrigtsen’s taste of double victory again?
Norwegian athletics has developed wildly in the last 5–10 years from the days when the country’s only viable medal candidate was the javelin star Andreas Thorkildsen. In Rome, the country has several champion candidates.
Men’s 1,500 meters endurance running monster Jakob Ingebrigtsen is looking for his third consecutive EC gold. On this trip, Norway has excellent seams for a double victory, because Narve Gilde Nordås won the WC bronze last summer in Ingebrigtsen’s vanadeve. British runners By Josh Kerr and by Jake Wightman while away, the Norwegian duo is on paper above the rest.
Ingebrigtsen already has experience in winning the double, because six years ago, at the age of 17, she was first in the 5,000 meters at the European Championships in Berlin and the big brother Henrik two. In Rome, Jakob is also the clear number one favorite at 5,000 meters and Nordås is a potential medal candidate.
Norway has a lot of quality when it comes to running distances. Norwegian Sondre Nordstad Moen is number one in the half marathon. ME man in the 400-meter hurdles Karsten Warholm is one and a half seconds better time (46.70) than the second place in the statistics, Italy Alessandro Siblia.
The women’s 200 meters has a surprising championship streak. Norwegian youth Henriette Jaeger is fifth in the European statistics, but no less than three of the athletes ahead of him are missing from the line. Last summer in Espoo, he won the under-23 European Championship and finished sixth in the World Championships Håvard Bentdal Ingvaldsen is among the medal candidates in the 400 meters.
In the decathlon, on the other hand, the Norwegians have two athletes capable of European medals. Markus Rooth and (8,608) and Sander Skotheim (8,590) were third and fourth in last summer’s European statistics.
