Tides aka The Colony is an English-language science fiction film by Swiss filmmaker Tim Fehlbaum (Hell) and his co-author Mariko Minoguchi (My End. Your Beginning.). If you haven’t had it on your radar yet, you can now, because the project, which was shot in Basel and on the Wadden Sea, is currently on Amazon Prime Video streamable.

The film premiered in 2021 during the virtual Corona Berlinale.

Tides on Amazon Prime Video: Big-picture sci-fi from here

Years ago, a global catastrophe occurred in Tides that wiped out almost all of humanity. Only a few who could afford it fled to the space colony Kepler-209, where years later, due to the high levels of radiation, no children are born. Astronaut Louise Blake (Nora Arnezeder) is sent to find out whether the Earth is now habitable again. She also has a personal motivation, because her father was part of the first exploration mission back to Earth, which was never heard from again.

Other roles include Bella Bading, Joel Basman, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina and Game of Thrones star Iain Glen.

The film review by Filmstarts concludes:

Tides is a Highly illustrated and acted end-time drama from Germany. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another ten years for Tim Fehlbaum’s next film, because there is hardly any other domestic director apart from him who dares to tackle sci-fi cinema on this scale.
