After a long development period, Throne and Liberty is a real MMORPG hit this year. For many, this is great hope for the gaming year 2023. However, developer NCSoft has so far been reluctant to provide information and, as a YouTube video now shows, there could also be good reasons.
What is Throne and Liberty? The game was originally announced as Lineage Eternal and already has a long and somewhat bumpy development under its belt. Now the MMORPG is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2023 and boasts great graphics, exciting influences of weather on the fight and even transformation into animals that can then fly and swim.
However, not much more is known to this day. Just a few months ago, developer NCSoft revealed that they are teaming up with Amazon for publishing in the West, which will take over the 3rd major MMORPG in a row for the West.
There was also a playtest for selected players, but this is under the NDA, so it is not allowed to be discussed. Nevertheless, one or the other has already done so on reddit and spread information about Throne and Liberty that should not please everyone.
What information is it? A supposed tester reported shortly after the beta that the combat system was boring. This should be too static and simply not fun. In addition, the story is not necessarily great and you can only partially avoid PvP in the open world.
The Spanish YouTuber PvE Zone has recently collected 75 facts about Throne and Liberty in a video that do not necessarily brighten the mood about the upcoming game. Importantly, much of this is leaks and reddit postings, so the following information is not fully verifiable.
Autoplay and skins that improve your character
What information hurts the most? Of the 75 facts that the YouTuber was able to find, the last one is probably the one that is likely to bother most PC gamers: Autoplay. So there should be a function in TL that plays some parts of the MMORPG completely automatically for you.
There should also be an interface that shows you how long you’ve been on the road automatically, how much experience and gold you’ve earned and more. According to the PvE zone, the autoplay feature should be limited to normal auto attacks and a few skills. The built-in bot should not be able to take over counters, dodge rolls and healing for you.
For the latter, however, a built-in “Auto-Pot” system is supposed to provide you with healing potions when your life points are low. The YouTuber says that the system should be linked to your pet.
Many skins of different rarities that improve your character should also bother you. Because the chic outfits should have tangible values in Throne and Liberty and even be upgradeable. However, it is particularly questionable whether this will also appear here in the West. Amazon didn’t bring us a comparable system in Lost Ark.
Weather has even more influence than previously thought
Is there any good information? Yes, because the weather system seems to be going deeper than many thought. The fact that wind, weather and water influence the fights was already one of the bigger selling points of Throne and Liberty, but day and night also change how your character behaves.
As an example, the YouTuber cites the dagger ability “Venom Blood”. This supposedly does 20% more poison damage during the day while his raw damage increases by 20% at night. But your opponents also change, a plant world boss gets bigger and stronger if it has rained before.
Even in direct combat, players can use the weather for themselves. As the owner of a castle, you can influence the weather twice a day and thus heavy rain will flood the catacombs, through which one could otherwise penetrate your fortress. There is a lot of positive feedback in the comments on this information.
What is hotly debated? Both the YouTuber and the commenters seem to disagree on two things, whether it’s good or bad. On the one hand there should be an upgrade system for equipment, where you can improve your stuff up to +12. However, success only seems to be guaranteed up to +6, after that the items can probably break when upgraded.
Furthermore, the information on the ability to transform is also criticized. PvE-Zone says that as a bird you cannot fly freely, you can only glide. But there would be winds in the air that you could use in certain places, so similar to gliding in Guild Wars 2. Some are disappointed by this, others probably thought from the outset that it was no different.
What do you think of the Throne and Liberty information snippets? Do you trust the numerous information leaks, or are you still waiting for official statements? Would you also play the game with autoplay? Write it to us in the comments here at MeinMMO.
