An MMO suddenly has 25,000 players on Steam after an update – Emits strong radiation like Fallout

An MMO shooter with survival elements is currently popular on Steam and is especially popular in Russia and Ukraine. “Stalcraft” has a long history, but with a new update the game is now making its breakthrough on Steam. Fans see Stalcraft X as the illegitimate baby of Stalker and Minecraft.

This is Stalcraft:

  • Stalcraft was originally released in Russia in 2014, but only received its global release on Steam in 2022.
  • Stalcraft is an MMO that takes place in the radiation zone around Chernobyl. It has clear similarities to Stalker and Minecraft. The player has to stay alive, collect resources, make equipment and upgrade it.
  • What initially sounds like survival with MMO elements has a combat system like a first-person shooter like Call of Duty or Counter-Strike.
  • Stalcraft: X is free to play on Steam (via Steam). It does not support German, but it does support English with subtitles. The original language of the game and the only audio output is Russian.

2 years after release on Steam, an update brings success

This is the upswing of the game: Currently, 2 years after its release on Steam, the number of players is higher than ever before. With 25,040 simultaneous players, Stalcraft reached its all-time high for concurrent active players on July 10th.

The number of players has been similarly high in recent days.

    Update completely transforms the game

Why is that? Stalcraft received a “transformative update” on July 10, which represents a soft relaunch for the entire game.

As PCGamesN writes, there is now:

  • New places
  • New faction storylines
  • New mechanics
  • An advanced movement system
  • Changes to the in-game economy
  • Improve sound effects
  • A revised graphic
  • The developers say they have been working on the update for more than a year. Now the work of the past few years is bearing fruit.

This is what the Steam reviews say: The game is particularly well received by players who speak Russian (79% positive) or Ukrainian (86% positive). In English, the game has 71% positive reviews, in German only 62%.

    The reviews say:

  • “If Minecraft and Stalker had a baby, this would be it.”
  • “Very grindy game, good PvE and PvP.”
  • “The game deserves more players”
  • “A good game to have fun with when playing with friends. I like stories and quests the most.”
  • We western gamers know the scenario “The world after the post-apocalypse” primarily from the role-playing series Fallout, which was recently made into a TV series on Amazon. The vaults in particular always stimulate the imagination of the players in Fallout, because some wild experiments took place here: Fallout has a “Vault 69” and it is just as bad as you think
