Khelif and Taiwan, who won the Olympic final of the women’s 66 kg category Lin Yu-ting were disqualified from the World Boxing Championships last year, as they did not pass the conditions for participation in the women’s series. Lin won the Olympic gold in Paris in the women’s 57 kg category.
The Russian president of the International Boxing Association IBA Umar Kremlev claimed that Khelif and Lin have been “genetically tested and are male.” The International Olympic Committee IOC does not recognize the IBA as the sport’s international umbrella organization.
Khelif said she was “like any other woman” when the Algerian was being tested by journalists at the Olympics.
– I was born as a woman, lived as a woman and competed as a woman, Khelif stated.
