An actor from “The Crow” didn’t want to see the film for 27 years

The cult film The Crow is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Since its premiere, however, it has been overshadowed by the tragic accidental death of the main actor. Because of this, another actor couldn’t watch the film for years.

Which actor is it about? Ernie Hudson played police officer Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow. Some of you may also know him from Ghostbusters, where he played the character Winston Zeddemore alongside Bill Murray. He can also be seen in this role in the new films, such as the current Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

The Crow is a film Hudson remembers with mixed feelings. The main reason for this is the tragic death of lead actor Brandon Lee.

What happened back then? While filming The Crow, a tragic accident occurred on set. Lead actor Brandon Lee was hit by a real bullet in a crucial scene and died from his injuries.

Actually, the ammunition shouldn’t have been live. The case also recalls the accident and death of a camerawoman on the set of the still unreleased Rust, where Alec Baldwin unknowingly fired a deadly weapon (via nytimes.com)

Due to Lee’s death, it was initially unclear whether The Crow would even be released in theaters. After completing the investigation, the filmmakers decided to go ahead and shoot the missing scenes with body doubles and the use of visual effects.

Actor Ernie Hudson was very upset by the events, as he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview in 2021. He can’t watch the film and says, “I can’t get over it.”

Has he changed his mind now? During a conversation with GamesRadar+, Hudson spoke again about the film. His attitude has now changed.

Today he would be very grateful to have been part of The Crow, even if the experience was anything but pleasant.

Well, this is very difficult for me. I love The Crow and am so grateful to have been a part of it – and I say that now after all these years. So far it has been very, very difficult.

What’s next for The Crow? A reboot of the film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024. This time, Lee’s role “Draven” is played by Bill Skarsgård. Horror fans know him as Pennywise in the remake of Stephen King’s IT.

However, Ernie Hudson is not there again and is generally skeptical about the upcoming film. For him, the role of Draven would be inextricably linked to Brandon Lee. That’s why he won’t watch the new film. He is all the more grateful to be part of the 90s cult classic. Even after thirty years, it is one of the toughest action films – MeinMMO also recommends it for die-hard film fans.
