It is underwater, next to the central station and only accepts two-wheelers. In Amsterdam, an original, giant bicycle garage has opened its doors – and another one is opening later in February.
Around 11,000 bicycles can be accommodated in the two garages, which are accessed via a conveyor belt nine meters below ground. A small fraction of the estimated 900,000 bikes in the Dutch city of just under a million inhabitants, but authorities hope the new locations will alleviate the problems of finding parking.
Every day, an estimated 625,000 bicycle journeys take place in Amsterdam.
