Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, at the “Launch Ceremony of 5th Generation (5G) Mobile Communication Infrastructure Development Projects” held at the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), said that technology has changed many areas of life.
Pointing out that the importance and impact of digital ecosystems are increasing with digitalizing living spaces, Uraloğlu stated that special needs that cannot be met with existing technological infrastructures make new generation mobile technologies important.
Uraloğlu pointed out that it is not possible for countries to compete in the globalizing world without having a healthy communication infrastructure, and explained that increasing the productivity of digital technologies has become one of the important driving forces of economic growth.
“NUMBER OF BROADBAND SUBSCRIBERS EXCEEDED 93 MILLION”
Emphasizing that they will accelerate the projects prepared for the new century of the Republic, Uraloğlu said:
“This century will be a period in which our country will leave its mark on world history. We started this new era with the vision of ‘A Turkey with a strong industry and a national technology’ and the mission of ‘Creating a competitive, sustainable, domestic and national industrial structure based on high technology’. The future of our country, local We discuss it under 3 main headings: production, high technology and global brand. In this context, I would like to share with you some of our investments in the communication sector. The number of mobile subscribers, which was 23 million in 2002, reached approximately 91.36 million. In 2002, it was almost zero. The number of broadband subscribers has exceeded 93 million today. We will deliver broadband internet service to every home in the coming period. We aim to increase the number of broadband subscribers to 111.7 million and the number of mobile subscribers to 101.8 million in 2028. Our fiber infrastructure length is 536 thousand kilometers. has exceeded it.”
Uraloğlu gave the information that the electromagnetic field value measured in the region has decreased with the Çamlıca Tower and said, “Thanks to the Çamlıca Tower, which can broadcast 100 FM radios simultaneously from a communication tower for the first time in the world, the electromagnetic field value measured in the region has decreased from 39 volts/meter, which is the acceptable threshold value for the European Union.” “We reduced it from 6 volts/meter to 2.5 volts/meter. This provided an approximately 15-fold improvement.” said.
Stating that the number of people using the e-Government Gateway is approaching 64 million, Uraloğlu stated that 1001 institutions offer 7 thousand 410 services to citizens electronically.
“5G NETWORKS WILL CREATE MILLIONS OF JOB OPPORTUNITIES”
Uraloğlu stated that, as the Ministry, they are working to support studies on both existing 4.5G and 5G and beyond technologies and turn them into final products, and said:
“It is obvious that 5G networks, which will break new ground in the world of technology, will create trillions of dollars in economic value and millions of job opportunities. We are working to develop all the products needed in the 5G infrastructure, from the antenna to the core network, with domestic and national resources. Aware of the opportunities offered by the transformation that will occur with 5G, our Ministry “We continue our work.”
Reminding that they established the Communication Technologies Cluster (HTK) in 2017 to develop the domestic and national production ecosystem in the electronic communications sector, Uraloğlu said that “End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication” is being implemented by member companies in order to meet the hardware and software needs on the road to 5G with domestic and national means. He said that the “Network Project” has been developed. Uraloğlu stated that they want to eliminate foreign dependency in electronic communication infrastructure with the project.
“5G TRIALS STARTED IN 25 LOCATIONS”
Reminding that they have established an infrastructure at Istanbul Airport where citizens and international passengers with compatible devices can experience 5G, Uraloğlu explained that, within the scope of preparations for 5G, they have given trial permits to mobile network operators and domestic manufacturers, enabling them to prepare technologically for 5G.
Uraloğlu stated that the 5G network was tested in 25 places, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Edirne and Kocaeli, within the framework of the permissions given, and said, “3 mobile operators were given permission by BTK to provide 5G service at Istanbul Airport. According to the reports we received from the operators, the average number of subscribers Data download speeds are 1 gigabit per second and sending speeds are 90 megabits per second. In other words, our internet speed is literally flying. Our primary goal is to offer our country the speed to compete with the world with 5G and to ensure the transition by using a high percentage of domestic and national products. DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL PRODUCTION TARGET FOR 5G
Uraloğlu stated that, as the Ministry, they want the necessary software and hardware products to be developed for the mobile communication infrastructure and said:
“In this context, we determined the 5G support call titles in 2022 with the contributions of BTK, HGM, mobile operators and companies working on 5G. As a result of our work, on January 5, 2023, the name ‘Call Program for the Support of Development Projects of the 5th Generation (5G) Mobile Communication Infrastructure’ was announced. We made a call for 5G under 5G. With this call, we aimed to encourage domestic and national production with projects that will be given R&D support, to reduce foreign dependency in high-tech products and to support R&D activities in the field of communication. We planned to provide a total of 200 million liras of support with the call program. Different call sub-categories “We have set the upper limit of 20 million lira for each company that applies for more than one title.”
Uraloğlu, who informed that they completed the R&D support call process with 14 companies, said, “In the process that brings together the relevant stakeholders in domestic and national product supply, we cooperate with BTK, HGM and mobile operators Vodafone, Turkcell and Türk Telekom on project monitoring and evaluation. This is the reason why we are here.” We will hold the signing ceremony of the Project Monitoring Cooperation Protocol with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Transport Maritime Communication Research Center (UDHAM), BTK, HGM and GSM operators. With the project, for the first time in Turkey, domestic and national product development is carried out in cooperation with the manufacturer, the operator who can use the product and the supporting institution. “Work will be carried out in this direction.” said.
