A human rights organization has investigated Israel’s evacuation orders it issued to residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon.
The evacuation warnings given by the Israeli army to the residents of Beirut and the southern suburbs of southern Lebanon were insufficient and in some cases also misleading, Amnesty International says on Thursday in its announcement.
The international human rights organization says it has investigated more than 12 evacuation orders issued by Israel and interviewed 15 residents who fled from southern Lebanon and southern Beirut. Amnesty also made map analyzes of the areas affected by the orders and hit by Israeli strikes.
According to Amnesty, the warnings given do not release Israel from its obligations under international humanitarian law.
Attacks must never be aimed at civilians and Israel has an obligation to take all possible measures to minimize harm to civilians, says Amnesty.
